There are two things that you need to measure when it comes to buying a new sofa. First is the entrance to your home and second is the actual space where the sofa will be placed.
Step 1 Measure the Entrance Door (Or Lift)
The first step is to make sure that there is enough space at the front of your home to navigate the sofa safely to your living room. Or, if you live in an apartment, make sure that you measure the front door and also the lift to make sure that your sofa will fit. Narrow doorways, tight corridors, porches or unusual layouts can cause problems, so make sure that the sofa will fit through all the doors from your front door to your living room.
Step 2 Measure Corridors, Passages and Porches
Don’t forget to factor in fitted cupboards, radiators or other obstructions which can make a space seem much smaller, particularly if you are trying to navigate through with a sofa.
Step 3 Sofa Dimensions
Next, make sure that the sofa will be the right dimensions for your living room. Typically, there will be three sofa dimensions that you need to look out for, the width (W), the height (H) and the depth (D). Check that it’s not going to be too big, but also make sure that it won’t be too small either. Write down the dimensions and use newspaper or masking tape to mark out the dimensions so you can see how much space it will take up in the room. Read More
